The Bible

The version most of us use at GBC is the New International Version (NIV.) There are many versions of the Bible. The important thing to remember is that all versions are translations from the original text which was written in Hebrew and Greek. We use the NIV because we think it is easier to understand in our language today.

There are some churches that feel the only correct version is the King James Version (KJV). Some of these churches go as far as to say that the Lord Himself used the KJV, but this is not true because it was not translated until the 1600's. Pastor Dan uses various translations because they help him to better understand what the writer is saying. One of his favorite versions is the English Standard Version (ESV), however he primarily uses the NIV version in his weekly sermons. In summary, there is no right or wrong versions of the Bible as all versions are just translations from the original text.

We are starting to see out church attendees bringing  electronic versions of The Bible to the service on Sundays.  Pastor Dan frequently has us look up verses during the sermon and those who are using an electronic version are often very fast.  Amazon.com has many electronic versions.  Some are free or cost very little. If you are unsure what version to use, please contact Pastor Dan, another leader in our church or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
